SUMMARY:CONEXIÓN LATINA I - JOVEN ORQUESTA NACIONAL DE VENEZUELA GUSTAVO DUDAMEL\, DIRECTOR
DESCRIPTION:T6\nSALE OF INDIVIDUAL ENTRY: From August 1\, 2025 \n\nNATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA OF VENEZUELA\nThe National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela\, a cornerstone of the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela (El Sistema)\, represents the pinnacle of the country’s young musical talent. Founded in 1975 by maestro José Antonio Abreu\, this initiative seeks to transform the lives of children and youth through collective music practice. \nThe orchestra has been a breeding ground for prominent musicians and conductors\, such as Gustavo Dudamel\, who began his career in El Sistema and is now internationally renowned. The ensemble has participated in international tours\, performing at world-renowned venues and collaborating with prestigious conductors and soloists. \nThe repertoire of the National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela spans from classical works to contemporary compositions\, including pieces by Venezuelan composers\, reflecting its commitment to promoting the country’s musical culture. The orchestra has been recognized for its artistic excellence and social impact\, receiving international awards such as the Prince of Asturias Arts Prize and the UNESCO International Music Prize. \n\nGUSTAVO DUDAMEL. Conductor\nGustavo Dudamel is committed to creating a better world through music. His unwavering belief that art has the power to inspire and transform lives has driven his dedication to education and access for underserved communities\, expanding the impact of classical music to new audiences. His rise from humble beginnings in Venezuela to a career filled with unparalleled artistic and social achievements is a testament to the idea that culture can give meaning to an individual’s life and bring greater harmony to the world. He currently serves as music and artistic director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela\, and in 2026\, he will assume the role of music and artistic director of the New York Philharmonic\, continuing a legacy that includes Mahler\, Toscanini\, and Bernstein. In 2025\, Dudamel will celebrate the 50th anniversary of El Sistema\, honoring the visionary global educational program of José Antonio Abreu and recognizing the vital importance of arts education. \nHe is a genuine cultural phenomenon. He was the youngest conductor to lead the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. He has performed at global events and collaborated with pop music icons. He conducted the adaptation of West Side Story by Spielberg and the opening and closing credits of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His extensive discography has earned seven Grammy Awards and nine additional nominations. \nDudamel has been a passionate advocate for music education and social integration through art\, sharing his own transformative experience in Venezuela’s El Sistema as an example of how music can provide purpose and meaning to a young person and help them overcome challenging circumstances. In 2007\, Dudamel and the LA Phil founded YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles). In 2012\, he launched the Dudamel Foundation—co-chaired with his wife\, actress and director María Valverde—with the goal of expanding “access to music and the arts by providing tools and opportunities for young people to shape their creative futures.” The Dudamel Foundation organized its Encuentros initiative worldwide\, from Spain to the Hollywood Bowl\, to explore cultural unity and celebrate harmony\, equality\, dignity\, beauty\, and respect through music.

In its 131st season\, it combines its musical heritage with an expanding international presence through tours\, residencies and recordings. \nDuring the Year of Czech Music 2024\, the orchestra and its Chief Conductor and Music Director\, Semyon Bychkov\, presented a three-day residency at Carnegie Hall. That same year\, Smetana’s Má vlast received the 2025 Orchestral Award from BBC Music Magazine. Alongside the Czech repertoire\, the orchestra has a longstanding relationship with composers such as Brahms\, Tchaikovsky and Mahler\, resulting in a series of landmark recordings\, including The Tchaikovsky Project (2019) and a cycle of Mahler symphonies (2026). An upcoming release features Shostakovich’s Symphonies Nos. 5 and 7. \nIn Prague\, the orchestra opens its 131st season with Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1\, featuring its Artist-in-Residence Janine Jansen\, alongside Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony. The Czech Philharmonic’s Composer-in-Residence for its 131st season is Thomas Adès\, and its Artist-in-Residence is Janine Jansen. \nIts history reflects its geographical location and the country’s complex political past. A pioneer in promoting the music of Martinů and Janáček\, the orchestra gave its first concert in 1896 with a programme devoted to Dvořák and conducted by the composer himself. Alongside its commitment to Czech composers\, its educational programmes engage more than 400 schools across the country\, supporting young musicians and promoting social inclusion. \n\n  \nSEMYON BYCHKOV. Chief Conductor and Music Director \nSemyon Bychkov marked the Czech Philharmonic’s 130th anniversary in 2026 with extensive tours in Asia and Europe and with PENTATONE’s release of the nine Mahler symphonies. In the 2026/2027 season he returns to the repertoire of his formative years and\, alongside the Czech masters\, will conduct works by Shostakovich\, Rachmaninoff and Mussorgsky. \nBorn in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1952\, he emigrated to the United States in 1975 and\, since the mid-1980s\, has lived in Europe. He enjoyed success as music director of the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic and\, after a series of high-profile cancellations that led to engagements with the New York and Berlin Philharmonics and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra\, he returned as principal guest conductor of the St Petersburg Philharmonic in 1989. He was appointed music director of the Orchestre de Paris (1989); chief conductor of WDR Cologne (1997); and chief conductor of the Semperoper Dresden (1998). From August 2026\, Bychkov will be music director designate of the Paris Opera\, assuming the post of music director in 2028. \nBychkov conducts in all the major opera houses\, including La Scala in Milan\, the Royal Opera House\, Covent Garden in London\, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The warmth of Bychkov’s relationships is particularly reflected in the honorary titles he holds at the Royal Academy of Music and the BBC Symphony Orchestra\, which he conducts regularly at the BBC Proms. \nSemyon Bychkov was named Conductor of the Year by the International Opera Awards (2015) and by Musical America (2022). \n\n  \nMao Fujita.
