SUMMARY:Caminero Trío & David Carpio - Al Cante
DESCRIPTION:The three pillars of flamenco are dance\, song\, and guitar. In his album Al toque (Karonte\, 2021)\, Caminero explored flamenco guitar from a unique perspective\, reinterpreting major works for his trio featuring Moisés Sánchez on piano and Paquito González on percussion. Now\, with Al cante\, he seeks to integrate the Jerez-born voice of David Carpio into his jazz- flamenco repertoire. \nThis new project leverages the modular structure of flamenco—often alternating between cante\, rhythm\, and falsetas—to blend the trio’s melodies and solos with David’s powerful voice. Together\, they explore new ways for a jazz-flamenco trio and a cantaor to coexist musically. \nAfter more than a decade performing with master guitarist Gerardo Núñez\, Caminero has become a regular figure in the flamenco world. Along the way\, he met David Carpio\, with whom he had previously collaborated on the show Solos and several tracks from the album Con la voz en la tierra (2019). It was only a matter of time before they reunited for a project like this— one that presents both musical and stylistic challenges\, where pieces from seemingly different worlds find common ground and create a seamless\, natural sound. \nCaminero’s jazz trio is currently composed of Daniel García Diego on piano and Shayan Fathi on drums\, musicians with a deep understanding of jazz- flamenco. Thanks to their experience\, the trio supports David’s voice without the need for a guitar—that symbolic “home” so central to flamenco. \nAl cante is both a jazz-flamenco concert and a cante recital\, offering a one- of-a-kind experience that bridges both worlds. \n\nPABLO MARTÍN CAMINERO BIOGRAPHY\nPablo Martín Caminero (Vitoria-Gasteiz). \nHe completed his classical double bass studies at the University of Music in Vienna in 1999. After that\, he moved to Madrid\, where he began his professional career as a performer\, composer\, and producer. \nHis stylistic versatility has led him to collaborate with a wide range of artists and projects across genres and disciplines\, including Jorge Pardo\, Gerardo Núñez\, Dhafer Youssef\, Chano Domínguez\, Niño Josele\, Rocío Molina\, Rosario “La Tremendita”\, Ana Morales\, Abe Rábade\, Enrike Solinís & Euskal Barrokensemble\, Hippocampus\, Moisés Sánchez\, among many others in the worlds of jazz\, flamenco\, and early music. \nThis versatility has also inspired him to compose music for films such as Guadalquivir (2013) and El Plan (2020)\, as well as for advertising campaigns since 2006. \nTo date\, he has released seven albums under his own name: Doméstica (2005)\, El Caminero (2011)\, O.F.N.I. (2014)\, Salto al vacío (2016)\, Bost (2020)\, Al toque (2021)\, and Al cante (2024). \nIn 2016\, he premiered the show Double Bach alongside choreographer Antonio Ruz and dancer Tamako Akiyama\, in which he adapted and performed Bach’s Suites No. 1 and 2. He also collaborated with Ruz as a symphonic composer for Electra (2017) for the Spanish National Ballet\, and later for In Paradisum (2021). \nMore recently\, he composed the music for A tu vera (2023) and Swoosh (2023)\, both by dancer and choreographer Joaquín de Luz\, for the Compañía Nacional de Danza\, and served as musical director for Soleá (2022)\, by flamenco dancer María Moreno. \nIn March 2023\, he was invited by the prestigious NDR Big Band in Hamburg to perform with his trio a selection of his flamenco-jazz compositions\, arranged by Geir Lysne\, the band’s artistic director. \nHe is currently active with several of his own ensembles: as a duo (Recital 2.0. with Daniel García Diego)\, trio (Al toque\, with José Quevedo “Bolita” and Paquito González)\, quartet (Al cante)\, and quintet. \n\nGeneral admission: 25€.\nDiscounted admission\, for those under 30 and over 60: 17.50€.\nFLAMENCO JAZZ 2025 SEASON TICKET: 120€ (8 concerts)
