SUMMARY:Dorantes - Time as a witness
DESCRIPTION:If\, in light of recent events\, it was reasonable to suspect that Dorantes has one of the most fascinating\, accomplished\, creative\, and complete trajectories in contemporary Spanish music\, this performance dispels all doubt. \nHere we encounter the most Andalusian\, most powerful\, and most unmistakable Dorantes. In a concert overflowing with registers and styles— so much so that it’s almost overwhelming—he maintains a masterful sense of balance without ever losing sight of beauty\, adding to it a fearless drive to do whatever he pleases. The result is truly prodigious. \nIt sounds flamenco\, classical—with echoes of Falla and Paco de Lucía; romantic\, rivaling Chopin; or aligned with minimalist structures\, evoking Steve Reich. He gives the piano the lyricism of Bill Evans\, or summons spectral spirits\, searching for impossible harmonics beyond the keyboard. This is pure improvised jazz and\, above all\, sound exploration—an exploration of the instruments themselves—giving the music the added value of being absolutely unique and unrepeatable. \nGreat among the great. Revolutionary among the revolutionaries. Flamenco piano elevated to the category of myth\, far beyond any orthodoxy. El Tiempo por Testigo\, by the Sevillian pianist\, rests on the foundational lines of his intense sound and his unmistakable sense of rhythm. One only needs to feel the compás\, which\, just like in his body\, pulses through all of his compositions\, through his atmosphere\, through his personal universe. \nDorantes has masterfully embraced a virtuosic piano that speaks many languages—from the deep roots of flamenco\, through classical music\, and soaring into the most exquisite and pure jazz. \n\nDORANTES BIOGRAPHY\nDORANTES\, cultural ambassador and recipient of the Gold Medal of the Province of Seville\, is a multi-award-winning flamenco pianist and compo- ser of Roma heritage who has become one of the most internationally acc- laimed flamenco musicians of our time. He was a pioneer in introducing the piano into the world of flamenco\, creating a new language\, structures\, and forms that are now imitated by countless young instrumentalists. \nHe has given us works full of unique identity: the fusion of grandeur and emotion\, of music and stage climax\, and ultimately\, a deep human di- mension in concerts that cannot be interpreted without profound cultural knowledge\, extraordinary instrumental technique\, musicality\, and compo- sitional talent. \nThis creator and poet\, whose recording career began in 1998 with the LP Orobroy\, reflects in his extensive discography his natural language—fla- menco—and his passionate commitment to contemporary music\, which remains intact and obsessive\, marked by his unmistakable artistic style. \nA virtuoso pianist with a singular command of tone and color\, he has the rare ability to transform the piano into vast choirs\, guitars\, and flamenco cajón—while also creating a deeply intimate and personal piano sound that invites listeners into a completely different world. \nHe is also a brilliant and versatile orchestral composer\, with over a hundred awards recognizing a spotless trajectory. His creative force\, exceptional temperament\, and rare musical sensitivity have sparked a true revolution in the conception of flamenco music from its roots. His work is filled with musical reinvention\, deep composition\, rich history\, and a genuine\, authen- tic discourse backed by the wisdom of bloodline steeped in art in its hi- ghest expression. \nDorantes is paving new paths for this musical heritage. In his unstoppable evolution\, he is bringing flamenco closer to the realm of “classical or fine art music\,” as seen in the prestigious programming that features his name. And he does so from complete coherence with the roots—an artistic voice grounded in pure flamenco tradition\, embraced by jazz and classical music\, yet transcending both to create works of profound depth\, filled with nuance and bearing a Denomination of Origin. \nHe has performed on legendary stages such as Sadler’s Wells (London)\, MIDEM (Cannes)\, Royal Albert Hall (London)\, Skirball Theater (NY)\, Lisner Auditorium (Washington DC)\, BOZAR – Palace of Fine Arts (Brussels)\, Théâ- tre Alhambra (Geneva)\, Lobero Theatre (California)\, New National Theatre Tokyo\, Sumida Triphony Hall (Tokyo)\, Teatro Manzoni (Italy)\, Suzanne Dellal Center (Israel)\, Teatro Maestranza (Seville)\, Palau de la Música (Barcelona)\, Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid)\, Antalya Kultur Merkezi (Turkey)\, Ce- mal Reşit Rey Concert Hall (Istanbul)\, Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Nether- lands)\, Maison Symphonique de Montréal (Canada)\, La Grande Halle de La Villette (Paris)\, Bulgaria Concert Hall (Sofia)\, Auditorium Parco della Musica (Rome)\, Concertgebouw Brugge (Belgium)\, and many more. \nAfter six exceptional and award-winning albums—Orobroy\, Sur\, Sin Muros\, Paseo a Dos\, El Tiempo por Testigo\, and La Roda del Viento (commemora- ting the 500th anniversary of the First Circumnavigation of the World)—he recently released Identidad\, a stunning solo piano album which was se- lected as a finalist for the prestigious German Critics Award\, the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. \n\nGeneral admission: 25€.\nDiscounted admission\, for those under 30 and over 60: 17.50€.\nFLAMENCO JAZZ 2025 SEASON TICKET: 120€ (8 concerts)
