Praised by the distinguished *Classical Guitar* magazine for “having the potential of a star to serve as an inspiration to new generations of guitarists,” the Beijing Guitar Duo made its New York debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010, launching an international concert career.
Comprising guitarists Meng Su and Yameng Wang, the Beijing Guitar Duo has performed worldwide in venues such as the Concertgebouw, the Palau de la Música, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. This season, they will embark on a 12-city concert tour across the United States, with additional performances scheduled in Europe and China. The duo frequently collaborates with orchestras, as well as with flutist Marina Piccinini, the Grigoryan Brothers, and their mentor, Manuel Barrueco, touring throughout Europe, Australia, Asia, and the United States.
The Beijing Guitar Duo’s performances and recordings have consistently impressed audiences. Their debut CD, *Maracaípe*, earned a Latin GRAMMY nomination for its title track—a piece dedicated to them by the renowned guitarist and composer Sérgio Assad. Their second CD, *Bach to Tan Dun*, garnered widespread acclaim for its world-premiere recording of Tan Dun’s *Eight Memories in Watercolor*, arranged specifically for the duo by Manuel Barrueco. In May 2014, they released a trio recording, *China West*, featuring Maestro Barrueco. They are set to record a new CD in November 2022. Both Meng Su and Yameng Wang were born in the coastal city of Qingdao, China. Su’s accolades include victories at the Vienna Youth Guitar Competition and the Christopher Parkening Guitar Competition, while Wang—who became the youngest guitarist to win the Tokyo International Guitar Competition at the age of 12—was invited by Radio France to perform at the prestigious International Guitar Art Week in Paris at age 14. Both artists had given solo recitals in China and abroad, and had made recordings, before forming the duo.
In addition to performing concerts, the duo shares a passion for teaching, which leads them to conduct masterclasses at leading conservatories around the world. From 2011 to 2015, the duo served as “Artists-in-Residence” for the “San Francisco Performances” series, where they engaged in community outreach, gave performances, and held masterclasses in public schools and at the San Francisco Conservatory.
