ROBERTA MAMELI. Soprano
Born in Rome, Roberta Mameli trained in singing and violin at the Nicolini Conservatory in Piacenza, later completing her studies with masters such as Bernadette Manca di Nissa, Ugo Benelli, and Claudio Desderi. Today, she is one of the most sought-after sopranos in the Baroque and Classical repertoire, known for her crystalline voice, powerful timbre, and stylistic versatility.
She has performed on the world’s leading stages, including the Wiener Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Theater an der Wien, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal, Paris’ Cité de la Musique, Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colón, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Turin’s Teatro Regio, and Florence’s Maggio Musicale Theatre.
She regularly collaborates with prestigious conductors such as Jordi Savall, Fabio Biondi, Ottavio Dantone, Leonardo García Alarcón, Ton Koopman, and Marco Armiliato, and has worked with great masters now deceased, such as Claudio Abbado, Alan Curtis, and Christopher Hogwood. Among the period-instrument ensembles she works with are the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Europa Galante, Accademia Bizantina, Il Pomo d’Oro, I Barocchisti, Le Concert des Nations, and Collegium 1704.
Her standout performances include Monteverdi (L’incoronazione di Poppea, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Handel (Ariodante, Agrippina, Rodelinda), Purcell (Dido and Aeneas), Vivaldi (Catone in Utica, Orlando furioso, Teuzzone, Il Farnace, L’incoronazione di Dario), and Rameau (Les Indes Galantes), at festivals such as Drottningholm, George Enescu, and Potsdam Sanssouci.
In the Mozart repertoire, she has performed as Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito (Rennes, Angers, Nantes), Aminta in Il re pastore (Teatro La Fenice), and Arminda in La finta giardiniera (La Scala/Shanghai).
Her discography includes over 30 recordings for labels such as Glossa, Sony, Naïve, and Alpha. Notable works include Handel’s Rinaldo 1731, Cavalli’s Artemisia, Zelenka’s Il Diamante, Mysliveček’s Adamo ed Eva, and the award-winning album Anime Amanti, which received the 2017 Diapason d’Or de l’Année. She has also ventured into hybrid projects like Round M: Monteverdi incontra il Jazz.
Recent projects include performances as Vitellia in Tokyo, Teti in Vienna, the Virgin Mary in Zelenka’s Gesù al Calvario (Prague, Dresden, Gdańsk), and the international release of her new album The Ghosts of Hamlet.
RUBEN JAIS. Guest Conductor
Born in Milan, Ruben Jais studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, earning top honors in choral music, choir conducting, vocal polyphonic composition, and composition. He furthered his training in orchestral conducting with masterclasses abroad.
From the outset, he developed intense activity with the Milan Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Choir, serving as choir master from 1998 to 2007, collaborating with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Luciano Berio, and Christopher Hogwood. He later took on high-responsibility roles within the same institution: Artistic and Executive Director (2016-2019), then General and Artistic Director until 2023. Currently, he is Superintendent and Artistic Director of the Arturo Toscanini Foundation in Parma.
As a conductor, Ruben Jais tackles a broad repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music, with a special focus on reviving forgotten works. He has worked with prominent institutions such as Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Real in Madrid, Venice Biennale, Enescu Festival (Bucharest), MITO Festival, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Gluck Festival (Nuremberg), Wigmore Hall (London), RTSI in Lugano, and other orchestras and festivals in Europe and Latin America.
For two decades, he conducted the Mailänder Kantorei, an ensemble tied to Milan’s German community, focusing on German repertoire from Baroque to Romanticism. In 2008, he founded laBarocca, an instrumental and vocal ensemble specializing in 17th- and 18th-century music. With this group, he has gained international recognition, performing at Wigmore Hall, MITO Festival, Milan’s Teatro Gerolamo, and tours organized by CIDIM. Since 2014, laBarocca regularly participates in liturgical celebrations at Milan’s Duomo.
His discography with laBarocca includes Heroes in Love with Sonia Prina (2017), Bach’s The Solo Cantatas for Bass with Christian Senn (2018), and Zelenka’s Missa Omnium Sanctorum (2019), the latter receiving multiple international awards.
