Looking back for a moment, I rediscover the wake of the many thrilling sonic adventures we’ve experienced together. Stories that once seemed unimaginable and landscapes that could only be conquered through the soul—and that we have already traversed. This shared journey—made possible through music—has united us and etched the map of memory onto our skin, becoming the energy that propels us forward on today’s voyage, toward our own personal Ithaca.
As Cavafy’s poem suggests, Ithaca is not a fixed point on the map. And like our season, each imagined culture, each corner of the planet, each human emotion translated into melody will shape our path of experiences. Concert by concert, we will travel this time from continent to continent, from era to era, letting music transport us to distant places: ancient deserts, untamed oceans, and cities suspended in history.
Each work will be a new vessel, finely tuned, with sails full of the unstoppable force of sound, carrying us with the promise of discovery, inner transformation, and awe at the world. Each orchestra, composer, soloist, or conductor will bring us closer to a new universal language—one that allows us to explore what is foreign and, at the same time, rediscover what is familiar.
In every port: new colours, new soundscapes, new lives. But it is essential to understand—and embrace—that this sonic journey is, above all, a personal adventure. Intransferable. A journey of the soul.
Just as Ulysses is transformed at every port he reaches, the listener who fully surrenders to the musical experience—with no prejudice and all sails unfurled—discovers new perspectives, new inner landscapes. Because music—that ancient vibration that passes through the skin and reaches the soul—has the power to carry us far, but also to bring us back home: enriched, awakened, more human. (And if we dare to dream—more connected, more at peace…)
From the very first choral notes of the world premiere by our Alicante-born composer Ximo Cano (Ithaca), which will serve to cast off the moorings—alongside premieres by Grundman and Campogrande—we will set sail through the great names of music, led by unique artists from across the globe. Celebrating our very own Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo, docking at ports in all four corners of the world, with no geographical or aesthetic boundaries, we will be guided by the lights of many lighthouses.
Asia and the Arab world, with the music of the extraordinary composer and pianist Fazıl Say and conductor Darrel Ang; the works of Zhou Tian, pianist Yeol Eum Son, guitarist Kaori Muraji (with whom we’ll share a tour in Japan this year); and the dreams of Maurice Ravel; the Spanish and Latin spirit, alongside exceptional artists such as Judith Jáuregui, Orozco- Estrada, Joan Enric Lluna, Martín García García, Jaime Martín, Leticia Moreno, Gregorio Nieto, Joana Carneiro, and many more…
And Central Europe, with the great Romantic repertoire: the landscapes of Saint-Saëns, Khachaturian, Tchaikovsky, Nielsen, Sibelius, Bach, Beethoven, Elgar, Brahms, DvoĆák, Rachmaninov…
And the South, and the Americas: Gershwin, Gustavo Dudamel, and living legends such as Martha Argerich and Charles Dutoit… All of this scattered across every sunset, every night, and every dawn of our journey to Ithaca.
The arrival this time, like a return or a homecoming, with the music of Mahler, which could not be absent from our season.
The BBC, RAI, The English Concert, the Philharmonics of Slovakia and Armenia, the Orchestra of the Svizzera Italiana, musicians from the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam… will travel with us from the ancestral to the contemporary, from the intimate to the epic. Each program will invite us to listen to the planet with new ears. Music will be our vehicle—and also our shared language. Because no border can resist a sound that touches the soul.
As I was saying, in the words of Mahler—whose music ADDA Simfònica and I will be honoured to explore together as part of the thrilling voyage ahead: “Music is the true universal language… it speaks to every heart without the need for translation.”— Gustav Mahler
I hope you experience each concert as a new port, each performance as a sail fully unfurled, and that in the end, Ithaca—whatever shape it may take—finds us whole, transformed by
the beauty of the journey. Don’t you agree?
We are fortunate, once again. Thank you!
Welcome aboard.
