SLOVAK PHILARMONIC ORCHESTRA

The Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1949. Two internationally renowned figures, Václav Talich (1949–1952) and Ľudovít Rajter (1949–1976), were present at the orchestra’s inception. Other principal conductors who have played an important role in the orchestra’s musical development include Tibor Frešo, Ladislav Slovák, Libor Pešek, Vladimir Verbickij, Bystrík Režucha, Aldo Ceccato, Ondrej Lenárd, Jiří Bělohlávek, Vladimir Válek, Peter Feranec, Emmanuel Villaume, and James Judd. In the 2020/2021 season, Daniel Raiskin took over as chief conductor.

The orchestra has made numerous recordings for radio, television, and music publishers including OPUS, Supraphon, Panton, Hungaroton, JVC Victor, RCA, Pacific Music, Naxos, and Marco Polo. The Slovak Philharmonic regularly performs as a guest on leading stages and festivals across Europe, as well as in Cyprus, Turkey, and the United States, and has toured Japan, South Korea, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

In 2023, the Slovak Philharmonic toured Japan with pianist Olga Scheps and cellist Tatsuki Sasanuma. Later that year, they toured South Korea with pianist Yekwon Sunwoo. In February 2024, they performed with pianist Lovre Marušić in Zagreb and Maribor.

In the 2024/2025 season, under the direction of chief conductor Daniel Raiskin, the orchestra recorded works by Schmidt, Dohnányi, and Hummel. They performed at the opening

concert of the Špilberk Festival and returned to the Swiss Murten Classics Festival. Among their international engagements were concerts at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, the Cologne Philharmonie, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. The Slovak Philharmonic also gave performances in Slovak cities such as Piešťany, Ružomberok, and Nitra, and concluded the season at the Český Krumlov Festival with world-renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov.


AMICI MUSICAE. CHOIR

Founded in 1989 at the Municipal School of Music of Zaragoza by Andrés Ibiricu, the Amici Musicae Symphonic Choir is the resident choir of the Zaragoza Auditorium, where it has built an outstanding national and international career. Comprising more than 90 singers, it is part of a choral structure that also includes youth, children’s, and introductory choirs, totaling over 300 voices.

Over more than three decades, Amici Musicae has performed major works from the symphonic-choral repertoire, spanning from the Baroque to the 20th century, including works by Händel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Fauré, Stravinsky, Mahler, and Orff. The choir has also participated in opera productions such as La Traviata, Carmen, La Bohème, Il Trovatore, and The Magic Flute.

It has collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, and the Cadaqués Orchestra. Among the conductors it has worked with are Sir Neville Marriner, Gianandrea Noseda, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Marin Alsop, and Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez.

The choir has performed in renowned venues such as the National Auditorium in Madrid, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Palazzo della Musica in Rome, the Calouste Gulbenkian Auditorium in Lisbon, Saint-Étienne Cathedral and the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, Our Lady of Dolours Church in Chelsea, London, and the Church of St. Simon and Jude in Prague.

Currently, the Symphonic Choir is conducted by Igor Tantos Sevillano; the Youth Choir by Vanesa García Simón; and the Children’s and Introductory Choirs by Isabel Solano

Fernández. Vanesa García is also in charge of vocal technique. Rehearsal pianists are Javier Montañés Rocha and Óscar Carreras Molina, who also collaborates as arranger. During the pandemic, Amici Musicae maintained its activity through virtual rehearsals and productions, and it now continues its artistic work with renewed commitment, actively participating in the Zaragoza Auditorium’s programming and various cultural projects.


ALEXANDRA CONUCOVA. Violin

The 2024/2025 season included her debut at the Verbier Festival, as well as concerts with the Bologna Philharmonic, Essen Philharmonic, BR Rundfunkorchester, and George Enescu Philharmonic. She also performed with the Macau Symphony, Timișoara Philharmonic, and toured with Christian Zacharias across several European cities. A highlight was her performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto at the Dvořák Festival in Prague alongside Pablo Ferrández and Dmitry Shishkin, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher.

Her recording of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonatas with Michail Liftis, released on Aparté, was critically acclaimed for its technical assurance and interpretive boldness. Her recording

of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons was also celebrated for its elegance and virtuosity. Alexandra currently plays a 1785 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, ex “Ida Levin.”


MARKO MIMICA. Bass-Baritone

Croatian bass-baritone Marko Mimica is one of the most prominent and sought-after soloists of his generation. He graduated from the Zagreb Music Academy in 2011. That same year, he participated in the prestigious Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival, marking the start of his international career. He was part of the Deutsche Oper Berlin Ensemble from 2011 to 2016.
In the 2024-25 season, Mimica will debut at the Berlin Staatsoper with Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, perform in the premiere of a new production of Verdi’s Macbeth at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, directed by Marie-Eve Signeyrole, return to ABAO Bilbao with Tristan und Isolde, and give recitals in Oviedo, La Coruña, and Seville. In the symphonic repertoire, he will perform Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at the Kennedy Center in Washington under Noseda, Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Tokyo conducted by Michele Mariotti, and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death with the Granada City Orchestra.
He is a regular at venues such as the Paris Opéra National, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, Madrid’s Teatro Real, Vienna State Opera, Valencia’s Palau de les Arts, Turin’s Teatro Regio, Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera, Amsterdam National Opera, Bologna’s Teatro Comunale, Palermo’s Teatro Massimo, Sydney Opera, Florence’s Maggio Musicale Theatre, Wallonie Royal Opera, Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colón, Naples’ San Carlo Theatre, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Muscat Royal Opera, Parma’s Teatro Regio, Dresden’s Semperoper, and Verona Arena, among others. He has also performed at the Pesaro, BBC Proms, and Edinburgh festivals, noted for his interpretive versatility.

Mimica has worked with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Donald Runnicles, Daniel Oren, Maurizio Benini, Michele Mariotti, Riccardo Frizza, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Marco Armiliato, and Roberto Abbado, and with renowned stage directors like Robert Carsen, Claus Guth, Willy Decker, Christof Loy, David Alden, Calixto Bieito, Damiano Michieletto, Emma Dante, and Pier Luigi Pizzi.
In symphonic and concert repertoire, he has performed Verdi’s Requiem at the Berliner Philharmoniker, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Bologna’s Archiginnasio, Washington’s Kennedy Center, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex at Turin’s RAI Auditorium, Modena, Ferrara, and Naples’ San Carlo Theatre.


DANIEL RAISKIN. Conductor

Daniel Raiskin is one of the most recognized conductors of his generation, characterized by his unmistakable artistic signature and carefully curated programs that explore beyond conventional repertoire. The son of a prominent musicologist, he grew up in St. Petersburg, attending the city’s renowned conservatory. He continued his studies in Amsterdam and Freiburg. Initially focused on the viola, he was inspired to take up the baton after an encounter with distinguished maestro Lev Savich. He also trained with masters such as Mariss Jansons, Neeme Järvi, Milan Horvat, Woldemar Nelsson, and Jorma Panula.

Since the 2020/2021 season, Raiskin has been Principal Conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava. Since August 2018, he has been Music Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and, since the 2017/2018 season, Principal Guest Conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.

He was Principal Conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz (2005-2016) and the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź (2008-2015), as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in the 2017/2018 season.

He is a regular guest with orchestras such as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Naples Philharmonic, Taiwan National Symphony, Osaka Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Sinfonia Varsovia, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and Warsaw Philharmonic. In opera, he has conducted productions of Carmen, Shostakovich’s The Nose, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni. He participated in the InClassica International Music Festival in Dubai in 2021 and 2022 and led the Slovak Philharmonic on a Japan tour in 2023.

Committed to training young musicians, Raiskin regularly collaborates with youth orchestras in Canada, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, and South Africa.

He has worked with prominent soloists such as Emanuel Ax, Rudolf Buchbinder, Renée Fleming, Nelson Freire, Lang Lang, Julian Rachlin, Anna Vinnitskaya, and Alexei Volodin. His discography includes recordings of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4 with the AVI label, both critically acclaimed. His recording of cello concertos by Korngold, Bloch, and Goldschmidt with Julian Steckel received a 2012 Echo Klassik award. Other recent projects include symphonic cycles by Louis Glass, concertos and rhapsodies by Aram Khachaturian with the CPO label, vocal-instrumental works by Lutosławski with Dux, and a recording of Alexander Tansman’s Isaïe le Prophète and Psaumes with World Premiere Recordings.
