The new work by this avant-garde pianist, titled “Km.0”, is a personal and musical journey that weaves together musical styles and identities, evoking flamenco’s birthplaces such as Utrera, Jerez, Huelva, Cádiz, and Málaga, while engaging in dialogue with global sounds.“Km.0” symbolizes the point of origin of the deepest flamenco, where tradition and innovation converge. From its most authentic roots, Barrios explores new directions without ever losing connection to his origins— innovating while returning to the heart of tradition.
The aesthetic of “Km.0” centers his mind and artistic profile as the core of his work, with the piano as an extension of his identity—from where his ideas and musical creativity emerge. This album marks a new era, redefining flamenco, opening new paths, and establishing a musical identity that blends the traditional with the contemporary. This aesthetic becomes a sonic narrative that bridges past and present, breathing flamenco into every note and embracing other genres, reflecting both a musical and personal transformation.
“Km.0” highlights Barrios’ deep respect for flamenco roots and his role as an innovator. By fusing diverse musical worlds, he creates a work that is faithful to tradition and boldly contemporary.
