Singer and saxophonist Antonio Lizana, undoubtedly the most innovative figure in contemporary flamenco-jazz, joins forces with Argentine pianist and composer Emilio Solla (Latin Grammy winner) in El Siempre Mar, a project that sets sail in search of new directions in the fusion of flamenco with traditional Argentine music. In this updated version of cantes de ida y vuelta 2.0, Lizana and Solla blend their cultural heritages—rooted in tango, folklore, and flamenco—through the lens of jazz, a language that allows them to incorporate the art of improvisation.
The repertoire includes original works by Solla and Lizana alongside classics by Astor Piazzolla and Atahualpa Yupanqui. It was recorded in 2023 for the album El Siempre Mar, which earned a nomination for Best Jazz Album at the 2024 Spanish Music Academy Awards.
The quartet is rounded out by Pablo Caminero on double bass and Ferenc Nemeth on drums—a formation already familiar to Alicante audiences, having played a key role in the acclaimed Chick Corea tribute concerts performed by the ADDA·Simfònica Alicante under the baton of Maestro Josep Vicent. That project was captured on the album Ritmo, which received three Grammy nominations and won two Spanish Music Academy Awards in 2024.
